Issues
Housing Affordability
The housing crisis has had a major impact on our overall economic well-being. Fundamentally, it's a supply and demand issue. I support legislation that unleashes the full capability of the market to build low-density, sustainable, occupant-owned housing and planned developments where families and communities can flourish.
Economic Opportunity
The free market is the best system for allocating goods and services that mankind has ever known. An economy based on voluntary trade and a positive work ethic, free from government over-regulation, is at the heart of the American Dream. As your representative I will support legislation that reduces wasteful spending, burdensome regulations, and government inefficiencies, allowing Utahns to thrive. I believe that when markets are allowed to innovate, we all grow stronger.
Healthcare
I work in the healthcare industry, and I understand how cost-prohibitive it has become. We are experiencing a provider shortage that makes wait times unacceptable, quality care almost inaccessible, and insurance premiums untenable. I will support legislation that relieves the provider shortage and incentivizes innovation that reduces healthcare costs. I am also committed to protecting the privacy of your healthcare data.
Education
I believe that all children should have access to quality education. I believe that parents are the primary educators of their children and I support their right to choose how their child is educated. I support incentives that create an environment of competitive excellence, where children are rewarded based on their merit and achievement. I also support incentives that encourage improvement at the institutional level. I will work to ensure that school trust lands are used appropriately and efficiently so that we continue to improve the educational experience for all children.
Energy and Environment
I believe that cheap, abundant energy fuels strong families and growing economies. I am a proponent of a structured 'all of the above' strategy that includes fossil fuels, wind, solar, hydro, and nuclear energy. Responsible use of Utah's resources can ensure Utah's economic future for generations. I support unleashing Utah's pioneering and innovative spirit to solve our environmental and economic challenges.
Growth
Utah has always welcomed those seeking a better way of life and it rewards those who work towards that vision. I will work to solve our growth challenges by honoring our laws, respecting the human condition, and by inviting those that share our vision of a stronger Utah to participate in our culture. As your representative I will support legislation that incentivizes legal immigration, promotes personal responsibility, and acts with compassion and justice.
Self-Defense
As the grandson of a Salt Lake City police officer, I grew up in a family that respects the rule of law and the responsible ownership of firearms. I fully support an individual's "constitutionally protected right to keep and bear arms for security and defense of self, family, others, and property…". I am committed to defending Utah's open carry laws. I will also support legislation that promotes responsible firearm ownership and education.
Disagree Better
The current political climate is dangerously polarized, especially at the national level. I accept our governor's invitation to disagree better and to remain focused on finding solutions, instead of fault. I believe in being transparent, accountable, and communicative. As your representative I will be committed to listening to and receiving genuine feedback. I don't want to be your politician, I want to be your representative.
Water
Utah has a rich history of many pioneers and innovators. I believe that it is this spirit that has transformed our desert home into a thriving oasis. We have benefited from the hard work, sacrifice, and innovation of those who came before us and it is our responsibility to act in ways that continue that legacy so that generations to come also benefit. I will support legislation that responsibly innovates our storage and usage of water.
Equality
I believe that we are all created equal and that no individual is entitled to rights that exceed or supersede the God-given individual rights guaranteed by the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State of Utah. I support laws that promote equal processes and equal opportunity. I will support legislation that promotes equal application of laws regardless of class or status. I also believe that when we value merit and excellence, social mobility becomes a reality.
